Why leaders?
We believe leaders matter.
The decisions, character, priorities, and actions of one leader can influence the lives of many people. Leadership carries influence and consequences far beyond the person who holds the position.
We see this throughout Scripture.
Noah
Noah walked faithfully with God, and his obedience became a means of preserving his family when judgment came upon the earth.
Genesis 6:9, 17-18; Hebrews 11:7
Moses
Moses' obedience to God's call became part of the deliverance of an entire nation from Egypt.
Exodus 3:7-10; 14:13-31
Saul
Saul's jealousy and hatred toward David led to destructive decisions that affected not only David but soldiers, families, and an entire nation.

David
David's sin involving Bathsheba and Uriah resulted in the death of Uriah and other soldiers.

David's census brought devastating consequences upon the people he led.

These examples remind us that the decisions and character of those in leadership can affect many people beyond themselves. Leadership matters—and therefore, praying for those in leadership matters.
This does not mean every consequence is mechanically caused by leadership. Scripture shows that leadership carries influence far beyond the leader.
So what should we do?
Pray.
Because those in leadership influence people, Scripture calls God's people to pray for those in authority.
“I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.”
— 1 Timothy 2:1-2
